Visit Reunion Island – Gem of the Indian Ocean

Reunion Island, a department of France you might not have heard of (shocking, I know), is an absolute gem in the middle of the Indian Ocean. It’s overshadowed by Mauritius and the Seychelles, sure, and looks tiny next to Madagascar, but don’t be fooled.

The French love it, but most travellers haven’t set foot on its stunning and diverse landscape. Here’s the thing: Reunion’s got something for everyone. Fancy kicking back on a beach? Sorted. Want to climb an active volcano (the Piton de la Fournaise)? You’re in luck. There’s everything from gorgeous mountains and lush forests to miles of blissful beaches.

So, if you’re after a relaxing getaway, Reunion delivers. For the adrenaline junkies, there’s plenty to do. Hike through the island’s unique “cirques” (think enormous cliff-ringed amphitheatres), canyon down waterfalls, or hit the crystal-clear waters for some diving or surfing. This island packs a punch for adventure seekers.

Land Adventures

Get your heart pumping with hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding adventures. Fancy a challenge? Try your hand at climbing and via ferrata (a protected climbing route with cables and ladders). Explore the rugged terrain on a 4×4 excursion, or delve deep into the earth’s secrets with a visit to the fascinating lava caves.

Water Fun

Reunion’s waters are a playground for thrill-seekers. Go canyoning, kayak hidden coves, or catch some waves with bodyboarding or longboarding. Explore the underwater world with snorkelling or scuba diving, or take a thrilling white-knuckle ride with windsurfing or kitesurfing.
