Why Island holidays are the most romantic getaways

Published Date: 05 Oct 2017

Let's be honest, it would be safe to say that most people have dreamed of going on an island holiday. It's not difficult to know why with the crystal clear warm water, the powdery sand, mesmerising sunsets and perhaps a cocktail or two. The idea oozes romance and here's why we think an island holiday is the best way to have a romantic holiday.

  1. It’s impossible to not fall in love
Whether you’re in the “honeymoon phase” of your relationship, on your actual honeymoon, or want to blow some fresh air into your relationship, island holidays create the perfect atmosphere to fall in love. With all the stresses of the “real world” left behind you and amazing resort teams and hosts to make your every wish come true, you can use your island getaway as an opportunity to focus on each other 100%.
  2. You know what they say about oysters…
… no, not that! The fresher the oyster, the better, and island holidays will often lead to you trying some of the best oysters in your life. Oysters are a delicious hors d'oeuvre to try while on holiday, and add to the ultimate island experience. While it’s true that they’re not for everyone, you have to at least try one while you’re away. Then there’s the fact that oysters are said to possess certain qualities, which could very well lead to a romantic evening.
  3. The “catch of the day” really is the catch of the day
Oysters aren’t the only deliciously fresh food to write home about. Seafood is always as fresh as it gets, with some resorts offering seafood that was quite literally caught that morning. Many resorts employ some of the world’s greatest chefs from authentic backgrounds, while islands such as Mauritius and the Maldives are famed for the great fusions of cultures and the culinary experiences you can enjoy while on the islands. Some resorts also offer in-room or in-villa dining, where you don’t even have to worry about leaving your romantic sanctuary when you’re in the mood for a meal.
  4. Dinner under the stars
We’ve all been on romantic date nights right? Where the night is spent at a top restaurant, with great wine, delicious food and staring longingly into one another's’ eyes, but honestly, nothing comes close to dinner under the stars. Enjoy a warm, gentle sea breeze against your cheek as you savour the finest food and beverages you could image. You won’t even need to wish upon a star—by the end of the night you will feel as though every wish has been granted.
  5. See and experience new things with the one you love
Nothing “adds some spice” to a relationship like trying new things together and when you're on an island holiday, there are so many new adventures to choose from. Discover a whole new world together with PADI scuba diving, conquer mountains (or at least hills) with amazing hiking trails and picnic spots or choose from kayaking, glass bottom boats, snorkelling, archery and other amazing water and land sports.
  6. Sunset cruises and sundowners
Many of our resorts offer sunset cruises, and absolutely all of them offer sundowners. There’s nothing quite like a refreshing, classic cocktail as you watch the sunset over the ocean, the skies turning from bright blue, to pink, to dark. Sunset cruises are especially romantic - sparkling wine, lovely snacks, and if you are lucky enough, some dolphins frolicking in the waves while you sip away on an ice cold glass of white.
  7. Pampering like no other
When you’re not enjoying a sunset cruise or sundowner, or exploring an underwater world and adventurous trails, the best place to end up is at the spa. So many of our resorts offer couple treatments and double rooms, so you and your significant other can enjoy the ultimate in relaxation and alone time together.
  8. Beautiful beaches
We’ve mentioned it before, couples strolling on the beach is the most clichéd thing you could think of when it comes to a romantic island holiday, but it’s a cliché for a reason—few things come close! When you’re strolling along the water’s edge and you feel the waves lapping against your feet, you’ll hear nothing but the sea breeze in your ears and the voice of the one you love. Our resorts are all delightfully peaceful, which means strolls on the beach are private and intimate. It’s these sweet moments where things are said that you’ll never forget… sometimes this is even where that life-changing question is asked.

The list goes on. Island holidays take the cake as the most romantic holidays in the world for one very good reason: they are all about you and the one you love. Whatever you do, make it about the two of you!
