Not only is Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok one of the best holiday destinations in the world, but it is now temporarily home to one of the top 100 restaurants in the world, too. Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok will host world-famous restaurant, The Test Kitchen, for six weeks from the 11th of April to the 26th of May 2018. Read on to find out more about this prestigious restaurant, its renowned chef and the gorgeous Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok Resort & Spa.

Who is Luke Dale Roberts?

The name “Luke Dale Roberts” is one that is spoken with admiration in the South African food scene and even around the world. According to Roberts’ own representatives, “Luke Dale-Roberts is a name synonymous with the finest, most creative and innovative food in Africa.” and we couldn’t agree more. Roberts is the owner of Cape Town restaurants The Test Kitchen, The Potluck Club and The Shortmarket Club, as well as the Johannesburg-based Luke Dale Roberts X the Saxon—which was originally intended to be a “pop-up” restaurant, but found such great success it was turned into a permanent partnership. His pride and joy, The Test Kitchen, is so popular that currently there is a minimum waiting period of nine months for diners hoping to savour one of Roberts’ signature dishes. Suffice to say, Roberts is South Africa’s very own Heston Blumenthal and someone who’s restaurant you want to eat at!

Why Should I be Excited about The Test Kitchen?

Awarded the prestigious title of “Best Restaurant in Africa” in both 2016, and ranked 22nd in “The World’s Top 50 Restaurant Awards” the same year, The Test Kitchen is not only consistently ranked as one of the best restaurants in the world but also as a true African gem. Originally based in Cape Town, the restaurant features a Dark Room and Light Room, and is only open for dinner. The Dark Room features a true culinary journey, represented by a “Food Map” that informs diners of the culinary treasure they are about to savour, followed by the arrival of nine Dark Room dishes. The Light Room features a menu that reflects the prestigious chef’s travels throughout the world with signature dishes that speak to Roberts’ fondest culinary adventures. Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok has undertaken special measures to ensure the magic of The Test Kitchen is recreated with the addition of some Mauritian flair. This is an exclusive opportunity only available at Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok for a limited time, something you will surely want to say you enjoyed.

What can I expect from The Test Kitchen at Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok?

Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok will pay tribute to the classic Dark Room and Light Room experiences by starting the evening at the Republik Bar area where guests will enjoy tapas in the same style of food served in the original Dark Room. This will be followed by an iconic tribute to the Light Room in the form of a five-course set menu on the exceptional Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok beachfront restaurant. In addition to this marvelous, once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience, Shangri-La’s Le Touessrok is an exceptional luxury resort that boasts a collection of six other trendy restaurants and bars with cutting-edge dining concepts that include everything from your dining experience, the decor and artistic collaborations.
